Question:
What do you recommend for general cleaning of jewelry or diamond jewelry? I would love to be able to get that brilliant shine at home, in between our trips to Meierotto Jewelers.

Answer:
The best option always is to bring your jewelry to the store for complimentary cleaning. We give this option our highest recommendation because each piece of jewelry is unique and requires unique care. Additionally, some alternative cleaning methods risk damage to your jewelry. During a cleaning, we can also inspect your jewelry for obvious signs of damage or excessive wear.

However, we realize you may not always have time to stop by the store. There are a number of options to clean your jewelry at home and keep your jewelry looking good. Before choosing one of the methods listed below, please visit the store so we can recommend the best option for your jewelry.

We sell a simple jewelry cleaner for $6. This includes the container, basket, and cleaning solution you'll need to have your jewelry shining brilliantly in less than 10 minutes. For a more thorough cleaning, we sell mini ultra-sonic cleaners for $30 and steamers for $120.

For a basic cleaning, create a mixture of 1/2 Windex and 1/2 water. Dip your jewelry in the solution. Rinse with water. You can also use an old, soft toothbrush to scrub away any loosened grime.

As a word of caution, you should NEVER clean your jewelry with chlorine bleach as the bleach can literally dissolve gold or other metals.
